One day, you think you have things all figured out how they will go.

And then the next thing you know, you take 12 penalties in a game and people get suspended and you have to play the next night.

Such was the case Sunday evening at Ridgeland Commons Ice Arena in Oak Park where the Oak Park River Forest Huskies faced off against the DuPage Stars and came away with a 2-1 win.

“We kind of had a feeling it was going to be a low-scoring game,” Huskies fwd. Leo Lisnic said. “We have been having trouble scoring as of late. The night before, we played Providence Catholic and went 0-12 on the power play. We have been outplaying teams, but we just can’t seem to score very well.”

OPRF fans were hoping for more goals from the home side as well and things started off well in that direction.

OPRF, while on the man-advantage, grabbed an early 1-0 lead at the 9:29 mark of the first period when fwd. Liam Moroney followed home a rebound chance after an original shot by teammate Evan Kreidler was stopped by Stars goaltender Madison Meyers (30 saves).

However, the lead would not hold up as the Stars knotted the contest 1-1 with :48 seconds remaining in the first frame when fwd. Alex Gil scored off of a rebound chance after an original shot by Lucas Gil was stopped by Huskies goalie Parker Moen (13 saves).

“I think our defense did a really good job tonight of boxing out their forwards in front of our net,” Lisnic said. “Parker made the saves that he had to, and I think he did a great job tonight.”

The Huskies would take the lead for good with 13:40 remaining in the middle period. Lisnic got control of a loose puck in the neutral zone. He would then skate around two Stars defensemen and send the puck past Meyers for the 2-1 advantage and his second goal of the season.

“DuPage is a very good team,” Huskies asst. coach Ben Osler said. “They had our number last season as they beat us twice during the regular season. Tonight, we had to do a really good job of forechecking. I thought also our defense did a complete job. Everyone was on the same page of what we had to do to stop them on offense.”

Over the final two periods of the game, the Stars would manage just seven shots on goal all while allowing the Huskies to almost shoot on Meyers at will as she faced 20 shots on goal of the final two periods.

“I think we just did not have good puck possession tonight,” Stars coach Brian Barnes said. “A lot of our guys were just throwing the puck around not really looking for a pass. We are still looking to mesh together as a group. We are still moving some guys around to see who fits best together.”
